Ryder St Pontcanna

The Brief: To fully renovate and redesign both externally and internally a large four storey period (1890) end of terraced house in Pontcanna.

We love working with period houses and this project really had the wow factor. The design challenges went beyond our expectations, but we were able to create a unique and beautiful lifestyle space like no other.

This tired dilapidated house was in need of total refurbishment. This entailed completely gutting the property, digging out the basement, and stripping the dated electrics and plumbing pipework. In its place, new wiring and plumbing was installed, and internal walls were erected to create new living spaces. An underfloor heating system was retro fitted to this property to enable the clients to completely control the temperature and comfort level of their home. The back wall of the house was removed to install a large glass extension, with bi-folding doors which opened up on to a courtyard garden. The glass extension housed an ultra modern urban kitchen/living space for the whole family to enjoy.

Period features such as the beautiful sash windows and solid wood staircase were lovingly restored, and complimented with modern cutting edge design features in each room. This slick, tech savvy project was enhanced with the installation of its very own basement movie theatre and wine cellar. Every inch of this house was carefully restored with affection, and enhanced to form an ultra cool urban retreat.

“I would highly recommend MJ Construction, Mike and his team took the hassle out of our build and allowed us to create our dream living space. My perception has also been changed on what to expect from a building project. From start to finish they were professional, efficient and tidy, making it enjoyable and not stressful as imagined”.
